| Aug 5, 2016 | Vessel Sinkings

The Coast Guard is searching for a 69 year old Kayaker who failed safely return to the beach on Thursday as planned. Missing is Michael Carosell whose kayak washed ashore near Alsea Bay Inlet. The missing Carosell was reported to be wearing a black dry suit and life jacket. The Coast Guard is searching a 50 square mile area between Heceta Head and Waldport, Oregon.

The circumstances which caused Carosell to become separated from his Kayak are currently unknown.  Even in the best of weather conditions it is recommended that kayaker’s paddle with a companion who can aid in a rescue in the event of an unexpected emergency.

The Coast Guard was able to identify the beached kayak Carosell was paddling by using a registration number on the kayak. Because Carosell had left a float plan the Coast Guard has been able to narrow the search area in hopes of locating Carosell.   Anyone with information that may be helpful to locating Carosell is asked to contact the Coast Guard North Bend Command Center 1 541-756-9220.
